Investigation of the Giant Monopole Resonance in the Cd and Pb Isotopes: The Asymmetry Term in Nuclear Incompressibility and the MEM Effect
نویسنده
چکیده
The giant monopole resonance (GMR) has been investigated in the even-A Cd and Pb isotopes 112−124Cd, and 204−208Pb, with the aim of obtaining a confirmatory “experimental” value for the asymmetry term in nuclear incompressibility, Kτ , and to test the Mutual Enhancement Magicity (MEM) effect in nuclear incompressibilities. The latter was advanced as a possible explanation of the puzzling “softness” of the Sn and Cd nuclei, as evidenced by their low GMR energies as compared to theoretical predictions. The GMR results in the Cd isotopes give a value Kτ = −490± 100 MeV, in close agreement with the value obtained previously from the Sn isotopes. Our results rule out the MEM effect as an explanation of the aforementioned “softness” observed for the Sn and Cd nuclei.

متن کاملInvestigation of strong force influence on behavior of nuclear energy levels in Calcium and Titanium isotopes: Based on quantum chaos theory
The atomic nucleus is a complex many-body system that consists of two types of fermion (neutron and proton). They are in the strong interaction. The statistical properties of energy levels and influence of strong force between these fermions are well described by random matrix theory. Resonance of energy levels depends on the Hamiltonian symmetry placed in one of the GOE, GUE and GSE ensembles ...
متن کاملA microscopic estimate of the nuclear matter compressibility and symmetry energy in relativistic mean-field models
The relativistic mean-field plus RPA calculations, based on effective Lagrangians with densitydependent meson-nucleon vertex functions, are employed in a microscopic analysis of the nuclear matter compressibility and symmetry energy. We compute the isoscalar monopole and the isovector dipole response of Pb, as well as the differences between the neutron and proton radii for Pb and several Sn is...
متن کاملCompression modes in nuclei and nuclear incompressibility in relativistic models
Using effective lagrangians which correspond to a wide range of values for K1 relativistic RPA calculations are performed for monopole and dipole compression modes in nuclei. It is found that Dirac sea states have an important effect on compression mode energies. Including these negative energy states into relativistic RPA brings the results into general agreement with those of time-dependent r...
متن کاملThe breathing-mode giant monopole resonance and the surface compressibility in the relativistic mean-field theory
The breathing-mode isoscalar giant monopole resonance (GMR) is investigated using the generator coordinate method within the relativistic mean-field (RMF) theory. Employing the Lagrangian models of the nonlinear-σ model (NLσ), the scalarvector interaction model (SVI) and the σ-ω coupling model (SIGO), we show that each Lagrangian model exhibits a distinctly different GMR response. Consequently,...
